JACK ROSS has completely refuted claims he is interested in Celtic midfielder Lewis Morgan after reports during the week claimed Sunderland were keen to bring the young midfielder in for the rest of the season.
The former St Mirren boss took part in an interview with Radio Clyde on Friday night where he talked all things football, including his time in Scotland, getting the paisley club promoted and any links with potential transfers.
Speaking about the rumours, Ross was adamant there had been NO talks between himself and Brendan Rodgers about any players going out on loan to Sunderland in January.
“There has been no communication with Brendan,” as the Echo Reports.
“He’s somebody that obviously I know well and he was very supportive of me when I was managing in Scotland.
“There’s been no communication between the clubs.
“Naturally with Lewis, obviously that link is easier to make because I’ve worked with him.
“He’s a young man that I forged a really close relationship with and he’s someone that I am desperate to keep progressing his career.
“There may come a time in the future where I would love to work with a player of his ilk again and his quality but certainly for the moment, those two players aren’t ones that we have any communication with.”
Brendan Rodgers has been clear if the right club comes in for Lewis, then he will seriously consider loaning the player out. After seeing the emergence of Ryan Christie, Rodgers is confident of this strategy paying off for Celtic in the long term.
Christie spent 18-months at Aberdeen, and many felt his Celtic career was not going anywhere. However, after coming back to the club this summer, the midfielder has been a revelation. If Morgan could mimic that sort of success, he could be an excellent player for Celtic in the near future.
Right now, the position he’s vying for is occupied by James Forrest; who for the most part has been in top form.
