It’s exciting and intriguing in equal measure.

Who has caught Ange Postecoglou’s eye and who will start the manager’s first competitive game on August 20?

We have four friendlies before the game against Midtjylland, but we’re unlikely to see the full picture until the first starting XI comes out in a proper, competitive tie.

The big question for me is; who will be Ange’s number one?

Scott Bain got the bulk of the games last season and Barkas was in and out of the side at various points.

Neither looked assured and Celtic fans have reservations about both men.

What I would say about the current situation is most fans know exactly what they’re getting with Bain and I think the majority will agree he’s not a Celtic number one.

Barkas is more of a mystery; there HAS to be more to the goalkeeper than what we witnessed last term. Was it confidence? People forget footballers are just people and not robots. Barkas left his country for the first time professionally during a worldwide pandemic where he wasn’t really allowed to get to know his teammates and was stuck in a hotel staring at the four walls. It has to affect you in the short term at least.

The worry is, Barkas continues his poor form and Celtic have a poor start to the season which we may not be able to recover from.

Ange needs to be 100% sure Barkas is the man. We can’t afford to give our title rivals the edge early on or they’ll run with it.

Interesting times ahead and some major fork in the road decisions that could have a massive bearing on the success or failure of Ange Postecoglou – no pressure Ange!
