BRENDAN RODGERS has given Celtic fans an update on the progress of Nir Bitton after the midfielder went under the knife back in February to fix a recurring knee problem.
There was hope in the camp that Nir would be ready for the new season at a push but it looks like there will be no early return for the Israeli, with the Celtic manager confirming he’ll be back in September.
“Nir is still in rehab. He’s probably going to be out until September time.
“That was the target from when he had the operation, so we have him pencilled in for then.”
Nir played most of his football at the back line for Celtic last term, filling in for injuries and absences.
It’s unknown if Rodgers will see him as a backup for the first team or if he’s ready to give the player a shot back in midfield when he does return.
