Shay Given knows a thing or two about Celtic, having originally come through the academy at the club from a young age before also moving on at the early stages of his career.

The Irish goalkeeper also knows what it is like playing at the top level, with clubs such as Manchester City in the English Premier League. So there are some clear parallels in a sense between himself and current Hoops number one – Joe Hart.

Hart was actually the man to replace Given between the sticks at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite that, there is no love lost between the former teammates, as Given stated his delight at the former England internationals success in Scotland so far and believes Hart will take Sunday’s cup final in his stride.

“We had good relationships, off the pitch probably more than on it because there could only be one keeper playing at a time,” he said, as quoted by Sun Sport.

“Joe’s a good guy and a quality goalie. I’ve been delighted to see him do well at Celtic, the club where I started and still very much support.

“But it’s also no surprise Joe’s gone up to Scotland and made an immediate impact.

“He’s a top professional, and I’d imagine he’s great, too, in the dressing room.

“Sunday’s final is another huge opportunity for him.

“But Joe’s had so much big-time experience he’ll take the final in his stride. I’m sure he’ll also be inspirational for the rest of his team with his approach.

“I’ve got no doubts a winners medal at this stage of his career will mean as much to him as anything else he has ever achieved.

“I really hope Joe and Celtic are winners on Sunday.”

Not many were sure what to expect from signing Joe Hart after going through a difficult stage in his career, which saw him move between multiple different English clubs as the second choice.

However, the shot-stopper has been a top signing for Ange Postecoglou, providing the squad with some much-needed experience and conducting himself in a classy manner at all times.

The 34-year old will be hoping he isn’t too busy come Sunday. But, from what we have seen in previous meetings against Hibs this campaign, Hart will be ready to step up to the plate when needed.
