BRENDAN RODGERS has told Celtic fans that forgotten man Eboue Kouassi still has a future at the club even though he’s only made 19 appearances since signing in January 2017.

The defensive midfielder came in and was supposed to be the competition for Scott Brown but it has never really materialised and a brown has kept his position playing some of the best football of his career.

Celtic also signed Youssouf Mulumbu in the summer. Another man who can slot into that role and when Brown was out on Thursday night the Irishman turned to Mulumbu and not Kouassi.

If you ask Rodgers though, he still says the player could still be in his plans.

His situation is purely down to the level of game Scott has played.

“Eboue is a specific player. People say he hasn’t played, but maybe him coming in has given Broony the competition as he sees how good Eboue is on a daily basis.

“He’s a defensive midfielder, that’s his speciality. He’s played there since he was a kid and it’s why we brought him in.

“I’ve never thought domestically that we need to have two of those in the same team. It’s always one and the level Broony’s been at has made Eboue’s game-time minimal.“

Kouassi is only still a young lad and could benefit from at least heading out on-loan. He doesn’t turn out for the developmental squad so the player is not getting any game time to improve.

For the amount of money Celtic paid for Kouassi it’s a lot of money to pay so your current centre midfielder continues to play well.
