Chris Sutton is back pushing the “Title Race” narrative as he did in December last year before natural order did its thing. Calling a title race in October is like picking out two winning marathon runners in the first few miles.

There is a long way to go, the Ibrox club has had a better start to this season than last, they do look like a better team but the wheels can fall off more than once between now and May 2020.

Sutton has made one claim that won’t get him any arguments in his Record Sport column today though, Celtic can’t sell Edouard in January for any amount of money.

“Odsonne Edouard’s stock is soaring after another star turn for France U21s and Celtic will need to be on their guard.”

“The striker has now scored doubles in his last three international games and when you add in his form for his club in Scotland and in Europe it’s not a leap to assume there will be a lengthy queue forming to grab him in January.”

“But let’s be clear. It is impossible for Celtic to even consider selling Edouard – even if they received a £50million bid.”

While that is a nice notion and if it was left up to the fans they would have no problem saying no to the money. But the suits think like business people, fifty million might be a made-up figure from the ex-Celtic striker but it is not that unrealistic in today’s market.

If Edouard was to demand a transfer and 50 million pounds was put on the table there will only be one outcome. Some fans are already resigned to the fact that the big bid will come in at some stage for their star, probably in the summer.
