CELTIC were linked with young Irish striker Aaron Connolly back in January.

Then manager Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton were keen on the young Brighton frontman according to Sunsport.

Aaron has come through the ranks at Brighton and at the time hadn’t made the breakthrough to the first team. His exploits for the Irish unders attracting attention from more clubs than just Celtic.

It would’ve stood to reason in the summer if Celtic continued that interest in Connolly with Neil Lennon bringing in a few Irish under 21s of his own in Jonathan Afolabi, Luca Connell, and Lee O’Connor

The Brighton frontman had made several appearances from the bench this season when just before the International break he was handed his first start where he scored two goals against Spurs in a thumping 3-0 win over the London side.

The player’s stock has rose quite considerably since. Could it have been a misstep not to try for the player in January?

Celtic have three strikers but there’s not been a time yet when all three have been fully fit and fighting it out for a place in the team. The burden of goals and a lot of games has fallen of Odsonne Edouard who has been doing a fantastic job. It’s the Frenchman’s goals which have provided us with some magic moments in recent times.

Chris Sutton spoke about Celtic possibly having to dip into the market for a new striker in January if Leigh Griffiths is still not ready to go – we will have to wait and see. Could Connolly be at the start of a fledgling Premier League career or could Celtic look to make their move?
