Chris Sutton offered a scathing verdict on Celtic’s goalless draw at Ibrox, calling it a huge missed opportunity and a reminder of the club’s urgent need for attacking reinforcements.
Despite Rangers being well below par, Celtic failed to make it count, managing just one shot on target deep into the second half.
It was a match crying out for composure and quality, but neither side could provide it. Celtic’s attacking trio struggled to link up, the midfield lacked any rhythm, and chances were almost non-existent.
The closest Rangers came was through a disallowed header, while Celtic never truly looked like scoring.
Sutton, known for his honest and direct takes, saved his harshest words for after the final whistle. Posting on X, he summed up the match and Celtic’s shortcomings in one brutal assessment.
Truth is two average teams. Big chance missed for Celtic against a rank Rangers team. Didn’t do enough to win it. Nowhere near enough in the final third from Celtic. A lack of combination play and understanding. Huge 24 hours for the Celtic recruitment team…

His message cuts to the heart of the matter. With just hours left in the transfer window, Celtic look short of genuine attacking quality.
The performance at Ibrox only confirmed what fans and pundits have been saying for weeks, if this team is to challenge seriously this season, major work is needed up front.

A board without ambition and without shame take our cash smilingly while stuffing it into the bank ne er to be seen again all the while asset stripping the clubs vital players and promise the world a d give zilch we couldn’t beat a team that got skelped 9_1 in aggregate stop giving them your money
Wonder when McGregor will actually turn up against The Rangers. Had a couple of good games against them when Brendan returned but the rest of his career he has been anonymous against them. Along with Hatate who starred in his debut but nothing since, the pair of them leave us 2 men down before we start.
That’s as bad a Rangers team I have ever seen yet again we can’t seem to lay a glove on them.
KT has been a big disappointment too and because of our piss-poor, or rather, non-existent recruitment, here we are again, just as we all knew we would be.
Scrambling to sign players in the last few hours of a transfer window that’s been open for months.
No one will be held accountable and there will no statement or apology to the fans.
Disgraceful
