We got wind of the rumour last week that Celtic are looking at a number of options to be the next full time Celtic manager. One of the more notable names was current Newcastle Boss Rafa Benitez which took us a little by surprise.

Rafa’s Newcastle contract is up in the summer and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. With Celtic looking for a new full time man, maybe it was a matter of putting two and two together and coming up with five. Football is never shy of a rumour and sometimes there is genuinely smoke without fire when it comes managerial appointments.

It was Etims Celtic site which suggested Benetiz was being looked at as a serious candidate. Since then Rafa has been placed at 20/1 on the bookies list of potential candidates. The news the Spaniard’s odds have shortened to 5/1 today is again a bit of a shock but let it be said that it’s not indicative of any insider information at this point and will be purely on punters betting habits.

Someone ‘in the know’ on a popular Celtic forum did suggest Celtic were making an approach for Rafa over the past few days and this is why some may have placed bets on the former Champions League winning manager replacing Brendan Rodgers.

You can’t rule anything out in football so until the next Celtic manager is announced the speculation is always going to be there. Would Lawwell really welcome a guy that would be pushing for a major budget to compete in Europe?

  1. Not happening. Celtic have shot their bolt on St Brendan and co. Don’t see them spending big on two manager’s in a row. As TIAR is not worth the investment. See whats done after the Glasgow derby or June.
