Neil Lennon has provided one of the most disheartening transfer and contract update this weekend by declaring it’s ‘as you were’ with regards to Odsonne Edouard and the club in contract talks almost two months on since they started.

Edouard has two years left on his deal at the moment and the club are aware if he runs down his contract, the Frenchman will leave for less than half of his real valuation next summer. However, it doesn’t appear that a new deal is in the offing which puts Edouard in the shop window.

Speaking to SunSport, Neil Lennon gave this honest but depressing assessment:

“It’s as you were with the contract talks. There’s been no further movement on it. Whether it’s Edouard or any other player, in previous years we sold guys like Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney, it’s not something we won’t be prepared for.

“It’s not something we want, but there may be intense speculation surrounding a number of our players, so we have to plan ahead and that’s what we do.”

Neil knows the score when it comes to things like this and will be pushing the club to make sure he’s not left high and dry should they sell Eddy before the window closes at the start of October.

If the striker doesn’t sign a new deal before then, the conventional wisdom does point to him leaving. The only way that wouldn’t happen, is if nobody went near his valuation.
