ODSONNE EDOUARD

Forwards
Date of Birth: 16 Jan 1998
Debut: v Hamilton 8 Sept 2017
Nationality: French
Signed: 31 August 2017

Odsonne Edouard first joined Celtic on loan from French Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017. During the Double Treble campaign, he was used mostly as an understudy to countryman and fellow forward Moussa Dembele, but nonetheless managed to bag 11 goals in 29 appearances.

Of those strikes, his 69th-minute matchwinner during the Hoops’ 3-2 win at Ibrox on March 11, 2018 is among his best to date, when he showed enormous composure in the opposition penalty box. Down to 10 men following the controversial dismissal of Jozo Simunovic on 56 minutes, Edouard came on in place of James Forrest on 67 minutes, and found the net just two minutes later to secure three well-earned points for the Celts.

A month-and-a-half later, Edouard scored twice in Celtic’s 5-0 dismantling of Rangers to clinch their seventh successive league championship – a performance which paved the way for his permanent move to Paradise in the summer of 2018.

His two goals at Hampden in the Scottish Cup final helped clinch the historic Treble Treble.

With 24 goals in 52 appearances, Edouard went on to become Celtic’s top scorer of the 2018/19 campaign, and his two goals at Hampden in the Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts helped clinch the historic Treble Treble.

In season 2019/20, the French forward was closing in on 30 goals and was a fundamental part of Celtic’s nine-in-a-row-winning campaign.

COUNTRY BHOY
First capped for France at Under-17 level, Odsonne Edouard has since moved through the 18s, 19s and now 21s levels. Making his debut for Sylvain Ripoll’s France Under-21s on September 5, 2019, the striker has been consistent in front of goal – netting a handful of braces, and a hat-trick against Slovakia on October 15, 2019.
