This summer feels inevitable that Odsonne Edouard will be departing after spending four years at the club, it is perhaps longer than many would have thought we could get out of the French u21s striker.
On Thursday evening, rumours of his exit began to surface with it being reported that English Premier League side Leicester City were ‘confident’ of securing his services for around £15 million.
Many fans on social media expressed their disappointment at what felt like a low price for a young, talented player.
However, reports are now suggesting that this in fact isn’t true and isn’t near the Hoops valuation for the player.
According to the Glasgow Times, it will take more than £15 million to sign Edouard this summer, even with his contract coming into the final 12 months.
Speaking in yesterday’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s fixture against Dundee United, John Kennedy did admit that his time to leave the club will come but the club will do its upmost to look after themselves.
“When you have talented players, there’s always interest,” Kennedy said. “So I’ve no doubt there will be interest in Odsonne, as there was last season and all the time he’s been here, but ultimately the club will do the right thing for themselves.
“We want to keep him for as long as we can because of the talent he’s got. But there ultimately comes a point, whether contractually or the player’s motivation, when you have to sit down and address that and that will be done in the summer.”
Although fans will be gutted to lose Edouard in the summer, it will come as better news to know that more of a transfer fee should be on the way.
Going forward, this money could be crucial for the rebuild that is on the way for the new manager next season to help him try and bring the club back to glory once again as soon as possible.
