OLDHAM are on the verge of taking Kundai Benyu on-loan for the rest of the season after Brendan Rodgers gave the green light.

The Irishman brought Benyu to Celtic Park in the summer and was ready to send him straight back out on-loan, but such was his performances in training the Irishman believed that his immediate development should be at Celtic.

Since then, Kundai has not made many first team appearances and the Celtic manager is keen to see the midfielder develop and get vital first team football.

Speaking in the summer, Kundai was hopeful of breaking into the first team:

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to go out on loan but I have come here and worked as hard as I can so I’m happy to stay and fight for my place.

“I would much rather be settled in Glasgow with the boys playing week in, week out.

“Given time and me working hard in training, listening to the gaffer’s advice, I think I will be able to get in the team as much as I can.

Obviously, things haven’t panned out the way Kundai would’ve liked, but he has the opportunity with Oldham to develop.
