Comparisons have been made to PSG’s and Celtic’s lead in their respective league tables. PSG held a 12 point lead with a game in hand in France. Meanwhile, Celtic had a 13 point lead having played a game more than their nearest challengers.
Ligue 1 is probably the biggest league to have called their season and hand out awards as things stood before the lockdown. This set of an assumption that other leagues with follow suit, especially in the SPFL were the winners was a foregone conclusion to anyone not blinkered by other agendas.
One of Celtic’s best players this season, Callum McGregor told the Glasgow Evening Times that if the SPFL follow the French lead then Celtic are “worthy champions.”
“Ideally the players and everyone at the club wants to finish the season on the pitch,” he said. “We want to play the games as we were on fire in the second half of the season. We were beating teams 4-0 and 5-0, and everyone was in such a good vein of form.”
“It would take a monumental collapse from our side of things for us to throw it away. So I don’t think anyone could grudge us the title if that decision has to be made. I certainly feel like we would be worthy champions if the games can’t be played.”
