MIKEY JOHNSTON announced himself on the Irish international stage on Wednesday evening. The Celtic winger was brought on for the last half an hour and it took just two minutes for Mikey to make an impact.

Running down the wing, Johnston cut inside, and rattled the post before the rebound was found by Ogbene. It tipped the game in Ireland’s favour and they’d win the game 3-2 against Latvia.

It wasn’t just that passage of play that has Irish fans purring about their new player, it was the skill and trickery Mikey showed as he looked to make his mark.

Celtic fans will know Mikey has that in his locker and he seemed to be enjoying himself out there.

If Mikey can continue to build his confidence in Portugal and showcase himself for Ireland, there’s every chance he’ll be able to come back to Glasgow this summer and show his worth.

The issue with Mikey has always been injuries. Any time he looked like he was about to do something or have an extended run in the side he would go down injured.

He has been more of a confidence player also. Right now, he can be a luxury in a team playing well, but he’s yet to prove if he can be the man to call upon when things aren’t going our way.

Ange Postecoglou has praised Mikey’s talent but felt it was best he went out on loan this season to get game time.

We’ll find out in the summer if the Celtic manager sees a future for Johnston at the club or if it’s time to part ways with the academy graduate.

Should Mikey be given a Celtic chance this summer?
