DIDIER AGATHE admits he was sad to see Brendan Rodgers leave Celtic Park after two-and-a-half years BUT the midfielder was delighted when he heard it was Neil Lennon taking the role going forward until the end of the season.

The former pacey fullback who was signed for Celtic for just 50k back in the O’Neill ere believes there was no better choice to come in and help Celtic through this difficult time and now Agathe thinks it’s time for the Celtic board to show their hand and install his former team-mate as the new Celtic manager on a long-term contract.

“I was sad to see Brendan Rodgers leave Celtic. He was a fantastic manager for the club.” Agathe told SunSport.

“To win so many trophies was incredible, and the timing of his departure came as a surprise.

“But when I heard that Lenny was coming in to replace him until the end of the season, I was so happy.

“There was no other choice. Neil Lennon is the perfect manager to take over and lead Celtic.

“It’s not been an easy period for Lenny, but he has got results and Celtic are close to another title.

“I expect them to be champions again, and when that happens, I hope the Celtic board give Lenny a long contract.”

Peter Lawwell and the board are exploring all their options ahead of a managerial appointment and will not be rushed into a decision. Neil has come in when Celtic needed him to, without a seconds hesitation but it’s not a given he will be handed the job. Neil must make it near impossible for the board not to give him the position at the end of the season.
