It has been almost four years since Joey Barton had a short holiday in Scotland and we are glad to see his Scott Brown nightmares still wake him in the wee hours. So much so that the ex-Ibrox flop is still trying to score invisible points against the Celtic captain despite been buried by the Hoops captain long ago.

We don’t need to go over all the hype that Barton came to Scotland with and I can’t personally think of another player so hyped up that failed so bad. You might say Torre Andre Flo(p) but in fairness, he kept his mouth shut.

Barton is still running his mouth, he has somehow managed to block out his dire performances in Scottish football. He has blocked out what Scott Brown did to him over ninety minutes or even just from one drop ball or just a simple handshake. He has blocked out the fact that after Broony led his team to a 5-1 win Barton would never play for the Gers again.

For some reason though, the man who got a six-month prison sentence for assault and affray has the audacity to tell Scott Brown how he could have earned more respect in the game. The Ibrox flop was speaking on a Football CFB Podcast and insisted Brown needed to go and play in England to earn the scoucers full respect.

This is from a man who’s career is littered with incident after incident both on and off the field. It was only last year that the now Fleetwood Town manager was charged with actual bodily harm following a post-match tunnel incident with a 45-year-old Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel, yet he still feels he deserves a platform to preach about respect. He has no major honours as a player and he still manages to come out with this beauty despite never playing European football:

“They’ll always say he did well in the Champions League and he did.

“But it’s easy doing well in the Champions League when you don’t have any competitive fixtures during the week and you all do is prep for the Wednesday night.

“In England you can’t do that. You’ve got play to hard Saturday and you’ve got to play hard Tuesday.

This quote comes from someone who recently put himself in the same bracket as Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard as the trio entered the world of management. There is no disputing Gerrard or Lamard’s playing careers or Joey’s delusions of grandeur. It is amazing Barton has so little regard for the Scottish game when he couldn’t hack it in Glasgow.
