Daizen Maeda’s sensational chipped finish against Dundee has been hailed as “one of the best goals” BBC pundit Lee Miller has ever seen, following Celtic’s 6-0 demolition job at Parkhead.

The Japanese forward, who bagged a brace on the night, produced a moment of sheer brilliance with his second goal—a delicate first-time dink over Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson after a slick Celtic build-up from deep.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Miller couldn’t hide his admiration for Maeda’s relentless energy and clinical finishing.

“The thing that frightens me, he [Daizen Maeda] never looks tired.

“He is a defender’s nightmare. I do not know where he gets the energy from.

“That goal he scored tonight [his second, chipping Trevor Carson], that’s one of the best goals I’ve seen.

“The finish is top drawer.

“I felt sorry for Trevor Carson tonight; the finishes were top, top-drawer. They were phenomenal.”

The goal was also picked out by Brendan Rodgers as his favourite of the night, praising not just the finish but the patient build-up that started from Celtic’s own corner flag.

Celtic calmly played out from the back under pressure, with Arne Engels delivering the final pass that split Dundee’s defence. Maeda made no mistake, lifting the ball effortlessly over Carson in a finish that oozed class.

With Celtic’s attack firing on all cylinders, Maeda’s wonder goal will surely be a contender for Goal of the Month—if not the season.

His work rate and clinical edge are proving to be invaluable assets as Celtic continue their relentless charge at the top of the Premiership. It’s just frustrating that he’ll miss the first leg of the Bayern match-up.
