It was a bizarre sequence of events for Celtic which seen the club lose out on their number one defensive target in January.

The deal to bring Ben Davies to Celtic from Preston was already being reported as done, when, at the eleventh hour, the champions of England came calling for the centre-back out of nowhere.

Nobody could have foreseen this move, not even Ben Davies. With no ink on his Celtic contract the English defender was only going one place after contact was made and it was all over for the slow moving Celtic.

We’re deep into February now and the defender has played the grand total of zero games for the struggling side.

Jurgen Klopp has either had Ben on the bench or not in the squad at all as they struggle for form.

It’s seems increasingly likely Davies was signed out of panic by someone other than the manager of the club.

Celtic are desperately short in that area of the pitch and could have been doing with the Englishman coming in. Had they signed him earlier in the window, Liverpool and Liverpool fans wouldn’t have even knew the player existed.

The way Celtic do transfer business we just can’t rule out the possibility of the club trying to loan the centre-back from Anfield in the summer. I wonder how much game time he’ll get between now and the end of the season.
