There had been reports for weeks Celtic were on the cusp of signing Charlie Wyke from Sunderland.

The 30-goal striker was out of contract and looking for his next move.

However, when we did our own digging about the player, it became clear many in the Sunderland support didn’t rate him even though he had scored 30 goals for the club last term.

The feedback we got from many Sunderland fans was he was an average player who scored a lot of his goals against lesser opposition.

It raised a red flag for us when Celtic were still continually linked with the player.

Luckily, news of Wigan’s interest became apparent on Tuesday and swiftly after that the player has been confirmed for the Latics.

It puts that rumour to bed and Celtic can get on with looking for a striker of a better calibre.

The club have yet to spend serious cash this window but you have to think it’s coming soon.

Edouard might have to be sold before they go in and replace. What the club have to do is make sure they have a replacement lined up for when the time comes.

  1. Bearing in mind the entire SPFL including last season’s Chumpions are no better than the English League 1 sides I would’ve thought a 30 goal striker would’ve been a great piece of business. That said if he has little else to his game then Celtic are better looking elsewhere.

    • Typical inferiority complex nonsense.

Sevco reached latter stages of Europa League, Even in a poor season we beat French champions at home & drew away.

And yet likes of Shtewsbury, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers are the same level?

Swallowed the English superiority narrative hook, line & sinker

  2. One thing is for sure we only sign players that want to come and play for Celtic we are linked with players all the time most of them are paper talk only but we do need new players in the next few days that are ready to sign and play for Celtic we need all the new faces here and now….ASP
