It has been reported over the weekend that Damien Duff will leave his coaching role at Celtic after the summer to take up a full-time role with the Irish national side.

While Celtic have commented Duff will split his time, RecordSport has confirmed the Irish setup are expecting the former Chelsea winger to go full time in the second half of next year.

This leaves a massive hole in the Celtic coaching team.

Duff was called up with Kennedy to assist Neil Lennon with first-team duties when Brendan Rodgers unceremoniously left the club.

If Duff is going to leave, then Celtic need to replace him.

For me, there’s only one man for the job and he has been in the position before – Johan Mjallby.

Once Neil Lennon’s assistant manager at Celtic Park, Johan has tried to make it on his own as a manger but it hasn’t worked out. He now fills out his time doing fan events and being a TV pundit.

As a presence in the Celtic dressing room, bringing Johan back into the fold would be great for the squad. The Swede knows the club and to coin a phrase from Peter Lawwel, he knows the city!

He’s a coach who could get players motivated.
