Daizen Maeda could be key to Celtic tonight depending on the way the team attack the game.

The Japanese forward was excellent during the first 45 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

In Celtic’s last Champions League outing, Ange Postecoglou’s side got on the front foot and were right in Shakhtar’s faces early on the in the game which led to opening goal.

If Celtic go full throttle from the off Maeda could be an imperative part of that pressing game which he does so well alongside his fellow countryman Kyogo Furuhashi.

It was interesting to note at the weekend that there was not much if not any switching between Jota and Maeda as both wingers tend to swap sides throughout the game.

This has been highly effective for Celtic as it gives another outlet of their play and also something different for fullbacks to defend against.

Maeda has come in for some criticism recently but much like the other forward players at the club he isn’t playing at the top of his game.

He was a key part of Celtic’s success last season scoring 8 goals and contributing 5 assists in 22 matches for the club.

He is a player who thrives on the performance of the team and will help out his fullback and he isn’t shy in tracking back which is vitally important at this level of football.
