Dominic McKay is media savvy, that much we’ve observed from the past month or so.

The engagement we’ve had with the club since Dom entered the picture has been unprecedented but very welcome.

On the final Friday of June, the CEO and the new manager sat in front of both the media and fan media and discussed the future and where they both want the club to go.

CeltsAreHere.com were in the room and we were impressed by what was said.

Dominic McKay can come across a little like a politician – that’s not meant to be a jibe. He’s well polished in his wording and responses and he knows the value of reaching out to different types of media.

Away from the UK press, Celtic and more specifically Dom McKay arranged an online zoom Q&A session with Australian journalists to speak to their man Ange Postecoglou. This was a masterful move by McKay who has ensured Celtic fill up column spaces down under which generates interest and buzz.

The Sydney Morning Herald were in attendance at the online meeting and pushed on a few questions the manager was not keen to answer eg. Transfer targets and backroom staff.

However, they did get a lot out of the conference and let their readers know what exactly Ange is up to.

Ange on not being taken seriously.

“I’m hoping I get to the point where people don’t look at me as an Australian coach – hopefully not even in Australia because that was as frustrating for me as any other place,” he said.

“My achievements even in my own country weren’t valued because apparently I hadn’t coached in Europe. Hopefully this breaks a few myths and preconceptions about it.

“I think once you tag somebody with some sort of stigma that because I’m Australian, what I’m doing is unbelievable, I think it works against everything I’ve been trying to advocate – and that is, it shouldn’t matter where you come from.”

The boss on landing in Glasgow.

“It’s great being here. They’re passionate about football, I’m passionate about football. Just to be here is fantastic,” Postecoglou said.

“To be fair, I’ve just done training ground-hotel for the last seven days. It’s been pretty busy. I haven’t had much of a chance to get out and about but all the people I’ve come across have been very, very encouraging.

“I’m looking forward to the key part, which is seeing our supporters at Celtic Park, because that’s the one thing people make sure I understand is going to be a special experience.”

Ange feels like he has a point to prove and a path to forge by being a success at Celtic. If he can do the business he knows others can follow.

Creating something special at the club will generate a lot of news back in his home country which would only benefit Celtic’s brand.
