JAMES FORREST has been a terrific player at Celtic; no one can debate this.

The winger has scored many important goals for the club, even this season, he has carried on his trend, scoring the only goal in the League Cup semi-final, which saw Celtic progress to the final and win the competition.

However, age, mixed with injury, is catching up with the Scottish International. It’s clear that he is no longer the standard of player he once was and will struggle to get back there.

After being brought on in extra time, Forrest should have been one of the freshest players on the park. But, he could not keep up with Calvin Bassey, who was playing his second game that went to extra time in the space of four days.

Forrest used to be one of the paciest wingers in the Celtic team, who could create openings. However, now the winger looks more and more like an empty jersey. Wingers agree out quicker than a lot of other positions.

James might put it down to a lack of game time, however the clock is ticking as he heads into the final 12 months of his Celtic contract in the summer.

It’ll be interesting to see how the winger’s situation develops once the season is over. It would be a sad day to see James move on, however, we must look at what’s best for both parties. Could he still offer Celtic something from the bench in less hectic games? Maybe.

  1. That time comes for every player, I would be sad to see jamesy move on, but in reality, maybe it would be better for both him and us, let’s wait and see what transpires over the rest of the season and beyond.
