When we talk about re-signing players, it rarely works out the second time around and you have fans who believe any time you re-sign a player from the past, it somehow means it’s a step backwards.

In any case, I’d like to make an exception!

Bring home Victor Wanyama.

The midfielder will turn 30 in June and still has a lot of years left in the game. Playing in the MLS with Montreal, the midfielder could be a huge component for Celtic in what’s going to be a tricky rebuild.

A player who has done it at Celtic before – gained major experience in the English Premier League and can still offer the Hoops so much.

People point to his injury record at Spurs but I’ll just dispel the myth Victor is made of glass by revealing the midfielder has played every single game for Montreal since joining the club.

Wanyama played 22 games for Montreal last season which was interrupted by the pandemic. The former Barca beater playing the full 90 minutes on every occasion! [TransferMarkt]

We’re just three games into the new MLS season and Wanyama has again started and finished all of those ties.

We need a midfield general but we also need players who know the league and are aware of what the club is about. That’s why Victor is a perfect candidate.

We must get away from all signings must be young players with a resale value, some transfer deals must be for the here and now.

The former Celtic man will have 18 months left on his Montreal deal come the summer. Could anyone at Celtic be tempted to reach out and ask the question?
