Odsonne Edouard has named young French defender Dayot Upamecano, as the toughest opponent that he has faced whilst at the club.

Speaking in an interview with Celtic TV, the 23-year old revealed that coming up against the man who will be joining German giants Bayern Munich in the summer, was his toughest task when they faced off back in 2018 in the Europa League tie against RB Leipzig.

“Upamecano against Leipzig, because we have played together for France, so he knew me well. So it’s very complicated to play against him.”

Despite Upamecano being named as his hardest opponent, Eddy still managed to get the upper hand on his French under-21 international team-mate, scoring the winning goal that night at one of the better European fixtures in the last few years.

It’s a shame that we could only see Edouard play most of his European football in the Europa League, with him becoming more of a regular later in the 2017/18 season, which is also the last time we qualified for the Champions League.

As he prepares to leave the club this summer, this last Q&A feels like a bit of a parting gift. From here, he will likely go on to face some of the top defenders in the world. So, hopefully, we can see him do what he does best and prove how good a talent he is.
