Reports overnight in Italy claim Celtic made a move for Juventus player Mattia De Sciglio.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims Celtic have came in for Mattia but it was not confirmed whether this was a loan move or a permanent deal.

The journalist writes:

“Juve tries to make money with some sales. Among the names of the outgoing players there is also that of Mattia De Sciglio.

“In the last few hours, Celtic’s interest has been lost on the Juventus winger. The Scottish team has come forward, but at the moment De Sciglio does not seem convinced of the destination.”

Mattia moved to Juventus from Milan for £10m back in 2017 and has over 30 Italy caps [TransferMarkt]. The player only made 13 appearances for the Italian giants last season with injury hampering his chances at a first team run.

It’s not clear why Celtic would be chasing the defender in-particular. He can play both left-back and right back – perhaps this was an attempt to get competition for Taylor.

If there has been any interest it looks to be fleeting and neither the club or the player look to be taking anything forward at this stage.

Celtic have until Monday to find a solution to their left wing back problem. With no game until Sunday, it should be the main focus.
