PATRICK ROBERTS has made the startling revelation that he has not spoken to Manchester City boss Pepe Guardiola since rejoining the club this summer.

The tricky winger spent two and half years on-loan to Celtic before heading back to Manchester this summer in the hope of quickly sorting out his future.

He looked poised to sign for Leicester City earlier in the window but that looks to have fallen through.

The midfielder is stuck in limbo at the moment and has told the media he has yet to speak to his manager.

Speaking to the Manchester News, he said:

No (I’ve not spoken to Guardiola), I’m just here to train, work hard and get my fitness up,” Roberts said. “We’ll see what happens.

“I know the window closes soon. If something happens before then, great. We’ll have to see what happens. I can’t really say anything. We’ll have to see what’s best for me. But right now, I don’t know. We’ll see.”

When asked about the possibility of rejoining Celtic this summer the Englishman didn’t rule it out.

“Obviously I said at the end of the season that I spent a good two and a half years there and my time was brilliant,” he added. “You never know in football.

“I’ve said before that I could end up back there at some point but right now I’m just looking at what’s best for me and best for my future.”

  1. Come on home Paddy bhoy!
The rumour is Celtic have left their offer on the table and he was spotted in Glasgow in the past week, although I believe his girlfriend is from paisley.

  2. Manchester City have a development program and once a young player does what Patrick did when he insisted on his own route in returning to the SPL rather than the course arranged by his employer, then the bond of trust is broken and there’s not an easy way back. Jason Denayer did the same thing with the same result when insisting on a return to Galatasaray, refusing a season long loan to Girona, in La Liga, playing the likes of Barca and Real Madrid.

I can’t see any more Manchester City protegees being loaned to the Bhoys ,and that’s no reflection on Celtic, but the quality of the opposition is poor and after one loan period a young player with ambition to become the best they can be needs to move to a more competitive league. SPL trophies and medals are good to have but are not a route to the top of world football.
