NEIL WARNOCK has paved the way for Patrick Roberts to cut short his Middlesbrough loan deal and look for game time elsewhere in the new year.

The ‘Boro boss had kept his cards close to his chest in recent times surrounding the wingers immediate future. As we sit a week out from the transfer window opening there’s an opportunity Celtic could land Patrick once more.

Warnock told SunSport: “I’ve had a chat with Patrick, and he’s aware of the situation. I think the lad wants to play.

“I don’t want him to leave, but I’ve said to him that if he wants to, or if he thinks he can improve his chances of playing by going somewhere different, then I wouldn’t stand in his way.

“He’s aware of that. Unless it’s a good club, he might as well stay here and try to fight for his place, really.”

The winger spent two spells at Celtic , spanning two and a half years. The club are in dire need of a right winger, especially since James Forrest will be out until the start of February.

Manchester City will have no plans to play Patrick if his loan deal is cut short and if Celtic really want Paddy, surely a deal could be done quite easily at this point .

Celtic have won their last five games after a drought which threatened to completely derail their season. Getting a player into the club who already knows a lot of the players and what’s expected of him should really be a no brainer.

Neil Lennon has never managed Paddy and it might come down to John Kennedy giving the Celtic manager the low down.
