Ronny Deila told the press yesterday that there has already been preliminary talks with John Guidetti’s agent about bringing the Swedish striker to Celtic Park on a permanent basis, but how realistic are our chances of holding onto him beyond the summer?

There’s no doubt in my mind the big forward will go on to top the Celtic scoring charts this season as long as he stays clear of injury, he will continue to impress like he did again on Saturday firing in a powerful free kick to set Celtic on their way to a victory.

It’s a double edged sword for Celtic really; on the one hand he will score goals for the club, but the more he does, the more attention he will receive from other clubs. That’s why the Celtic manager is talking about snapping up a deal quickly but I don’t see this being able to happen in the short term. By leaving it till the end of the season Guidetti would put himself in a great bargaining position with a whole host of clubs vying for his signature. I do believe his contract with Manchester City will be up this summer so he certainly wont be short of offers.

The strikers personality is infectious and in the last few weeks he has spoken about how much he’s enjoying his football and how he’s taken to the fans and the club very well. We can see the enthusiasm in his play and attitude when you see him chase down everything he possibly can. He is enjoying himself and we’re enjoying having him.

If Celtic were to announce an early deal for the 22-year-old, well then no Celtic fan will find a better present inside their stockings this Christmas.

If it does just turn out to be a one season deal then we should certainly make the most of having him grace those famous Hoops.
