Chairman Peter Lawwell addressed concerns regarding UEFA fines during Friday’s AGM.
He reported UEFA fined the club €90,000 in the last year and have already fined Celtic €47,000 this year.
Lawwell talked about the club’s commitment to engaging with fans to eliminate such behaviours, stating that various strategies have been attempted to address the issue, though challenges persist.
As quoted by the Herald, Lawwell said: “Celtic were €90,000 in fines from UEFA. This year we’ve paid €47,000 in fines so far. It’s unacceptable and it is very, very unfortunate. We have during my time tried various routes to engage, convince, and look at the ticket allocation but unfortunately to no avail.”
Encouragingly, recent matches have seen a decline in pyrotechnic incidents, with no flares spotted during the away game against Atalanta or the home fixture against RB Leipzig. This suggests that supporters are heeding the club’s appeals for responsible behaviour, contributing to a safer and more positive matchday experience.
UEFA did hand Celtic a fine and a suspended 1-match away ban as a result of repeated fines for the use of Pyro. Thanks to the supporters at recent matches, Celtic fans will still be allowed to travel to Zagreb.
Celtic are in a really good place in Europe just now. They have seven points from their first four matches and are looking really good for finishing in the top 24, which will see them qualify for the knockout round and get an extra cash bonus.
Next up is Club Brugge, as they travel to Celtic Park on Tuesday night.
If only the fans performed as good as Peter. Our most successful manager.
The fans with the consistent sectarian , inappropriateness and general lack of pride. We are miles away financially, and successfully away from our rivals our fans are as bad as their sectarian knuckle draggers
