Celtic have released a statement detailing the return timetable and their hopes of getting supporters back into stadiums as soon as possible.

Peter Lawwell was part of talks on Friday with the Scottish government which enabled clubs to get back to training and ultimately start working towards a new season starting August.

There will be no supporters in the grounds when the season does kick-off but it’s one step at a time by Celtic and Peter Lawwell:

“Everyone at Celtic warmly welcomes the decision in principle to a phased return to training and matches, while fully accepting that all decisions made in this regard must continue to have the safety and well- being of all concerned at their core.

“The past few months have been extremely difficult for supporters, players, staff and clubs right across the game. While we accept there will be no immediate return to normality, we are moving in the right direction and we thank our fans for their patience, understanding and support during these unprecedented times.”

The bhoys will be going into their ten in a row season under very different circumstances than many would have thought.

When the first league game does come, it will be met with an empty stadium instead of 60,000 fans watching the league flag being unfurled.

We might start the season without fans, but hopefully, by the end of the season, we can all get back together and celebrate properly.

It’s up to Neil Lennon and his team to negotiate these unfamiliar empty stadium games.
