CELTIC will today ask the SPFL if their players can all wear the number five on their shorts this Saturday against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

It was the number of the late great Billy McNeill who sadly passed away on Monday evening. Tributes have been flooding in from all over the footballing world and beyond with Billy’s reach and respect on show from everybody.

Saturday will be the first time the Celtic fans make their way to the stadium with Billy gone and it’s going to be an emotional occasion for a lot of people.

RecordSport revealed the club would like to mark the occasion with Billy’s number on the bhoys shorts, much like they did during the Jimmy Johnstone Cup Final back in 2006 with every player wearing the number seven.

Many Celtic fans would like to see the Scottish Cup Final next month be turned into the Billy McNeill Cup Final with the bhoys wearing the number five and wearing a Billy McNeill jersey before the game. The Cup Final takes place on the 25th May – 52 years to the day Celtic won the European Cup with Billy as captain.
