A Greek journalist has confirmed that AEK Athens goalkeeper, Vasilis Barkas’ move to Celtic is all but a done deal.

The journalist in question, Giannis Chorianopoulos has reported that the 26-year old has completed a medical today, with an announcement of his transfer expected tomorrow morning. It is also thought that Barkas has visited the training ground and met manager Neil Lennon.

The keeper is expected to complete a move, which will cost the club a fee in the region of £5 million plus addons, with AEK having a 10% sell on fee.

This afternoon, the 6 ft 5 goalkeeper was also spotted in Glasgow by photographers ahead of the completion of his deal, with only the minor details to be ironed out by the club and the players representatives.

Lennon has made it clear how much he has been in need of a new goalkeeper after Fraser Forster decided against returning to the club for another loan spell.

Barkas looks an extremely exciting prospect, having played at the highest level, on both the international stage with Greece and in the Champions League against the likes of Bayern Munich, Benfica and even faced off against the Hoops in 2018.

It was reported that Celtic would be spending upwards of €5m on the deal but SkySport reporter Anthony Joseph claims the fee is an initial €3.3m
