There was a poignant moment at Celtic Park on Saturday as James Forrest and Bobby Lennox shared a photo that captured more than half a century of silverware.

Between them, the pair hold 51 winners’ medals. But the symbolism of their meeting goes far beyond mere numbers.

Lennox, a Lisbon Lion who etched his name into history with Celtic’s European Cup triumph in 1967, represents the greatest era in the club’s storied past. Forrest, Celtic’s most decorated player of all time, now stands atop the domestic roll of honour after claiming his 26th title in last month’s league-clinching win at Tannadice.

The pair met after Celtic’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren, a game that saw Forrest deliver a fitting finale to his 16th season in the Hoops. Deep into stoppage time – in the 49th minute of the second half, matching his squad number – the veteran winger rifled home an equaliser to ensure the champions didn’t bow out of the league campaign on a defeat.

It was Forrest’s first goal of the season and marked an incredible milestone, scoring in 16 different campaigns for the club. It was another chapter in a fairytale career for the winger, who has spent his entire professional life at Celtic.

Jock Stein famously described Celtic as a fairytale club, and few moments underline that more than seeing Lennox and Forrest – icons of different generations – together, both smiling, both winners, and both forever woven into the fabric of the club’s history.
