On-loan Celtic midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu has been called up to play for South Korea during the upcoming international break.
It comes after the 23-year-old has enjoyed a prosperous start to life at Hibernian, where he is currently spending the 2024/25 season on a temporary spell.
Kwon joined Celtic last summer from second-tier South Korean side Busan IPark. He never made a competitive Hoops appearance during his first few months with the club, though, and was resultantly loaned out to St. Mirren in January this year.
While Kwon impressed during his early days in Paisley, he was eventually ravaged by injury as his spell was cut short.
This summer, after a positive pre-season with Celtic, he moved across the M8 to Easter Road, where he has been playing well at the start of the new campaign.
Kwon has made a productive start to life at Hibs and has now been recognised internationally for his recent performances.
Indeed, he has been called up to play for his country’s senior side for the first time in his young career.
Kwon could make his full South Korea debut in World Cup qualifiers against Jordan and Iraq later this month.
Having represented his nation at most levels, from under-15 all the way up to under-23, it was only a matter of time before he made the senior step.
