Celtic boss, Neil Lennon has hit out at his squad accusing them of a ‘lack of desire’ after Thursday night’s 4-1 loss to Sparta Prague and even admitted if this continues his head will be on the chopping block.

As reported by Sun Sport, Lennon warned the players they need to roll up their sleeves and improve, with some huge games coming up starting with Motherwell on Sunday.

“If I am going to get performances like I did against Sparta Prague, then, yeah, because it will be my head that is on the block.

“Nothing surprises you in football, but for this group of players to play with that lack of desire? It is on them. They have to roll their sleeves up now and show that they want to play for the club and they want to be successful.

“They have to show they haven’t lost that hunger because they looked on Thursday night as though they lacked hunger. I’ve got to cut the malaise. It’s my job to nip it in the bud and maybe become that little bit tougher on them now. To get some response from them. A proper response.”

As much as the players do deserve criticism after what was a pathetic performance on Thursday night, the management team deserve just as much, if not more.

The worst part about it was the fact that although we looked to be turning a corner, no one was surprised at this result after some of the performances this season.

At the moment, we really are in a tough situation as to where we are currently. Yes, if we win our games in hand we are only three points behind in the league, but European Football is all but over for us already this season and if we don’t get our act together it could slowly head that way in the league.

  1. Aw come on Lenny. You’ll get yourself sacked. Its your job to pick the team and motivate the players you bought then get them to carry out your tactics, thats what your paid to do. If you cant do that we need someone who can.
