Some people love rumours surrounding the big issues of the day at Celtic and some absolutely loathe them – I’m somewhere in the middle.

Something to talk about in between games and periods when there are lulls in the week, or it’s the international week for example.

Rumours and hypothetical’s generate debate and some even end up being true.

With that being said, we really hope Gerry Braiden has been sold a lemon with ‘rumour’ he let loose into the universe yesterday.

Gerry, a former Herald and Times journalist, has had his finger on the pulse over the years and has gained credibility among football fans for information he provides from ‘sources’.

The caveat being Braiden places it as a rumour more than anything. I hope this is wrong for two reasons. Mark McGhee being part of any Celtic set up makes me want to melt my season card on a high school grade bunsen burner and more importantly; Neil Lennon being told he has the job at this juncture would smack of absolute single-mindedness.

I’m not saying DON’T give Neil Lennon the job, what I am saying is it’s the duty of Peter Lawwell, Dermot Desmond and the Celtic board to be exhaustive in their search for the next full-time Celtic boss and if by the end of it they believe Neil Lennon is the man then we can swallow that. The Irishman being unemployed at the right time, coming in under short notice just to be handed the job without consulting anyone else would be weak and doing Neil a disservice.

The Mark McGhee thing has to be a non-starter. If you give Neil Lennon the job then on what planet would you be telling him who his assistant would be?

Mark McGhee has become a bit of a joke figure within the game and it would not serve Celtic well to bring him in under any circumstances.

Fast forward to June and him and Neil cuddling on the Celtic way.

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson ‘I’m not a religious man, but if you’re up there, save us Superman!’.

  1. If he is who Lenny wants I don’t care, now not the time to reinvent the wheel, keep the ship going for 2 seasons if possible ( although I doubt we will make 10 either way)… We have been crap for large parts of last 2 seasons, this season the only saving grace has been others playing even worse. I just don’t see the gap as abeing a chasm anymore, although we have chance to rectify that this summer.
