Police Scotland has released a statement after Celtic fans took over Glasgow in Saturday afternoon.

After the bhoys title triumph – fans descended on the Merchant City area of town to celebrate a famous title win. It was

The scenes from the city were incredible – thousands of Hoops fans revelling in the moment

After the past two years, several lockdowns and soulless football — Celtic fans had a party together and according to Police Scotland, there was no major disorder.

“Police Scotland is a human rights-based organisation that puts our values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at the heart of everything we do.

“This afternoon thousands of Celtic supporters gathered in the area of Glasgow Cross to celebrate their team’s achievement. A proportionate policing plan was in place which facilitated the gathering, prioritised public safety and sought to minimise disruption to businesses and communities.

“While there was an unacceptable level of anti-social behaviour and littering there were no serious incidents or disorder.

“There were some outbreaks of minor disorder and our officers acted swiftly and robustly to prevent escalation and protect safety. Over the course of the evening there were six arrests for offences including assault and acts of public disorder. A further four people were issued with fixed penalty notices.

You’re always going to have a couple of people who may take it too far on the day but given the size of the crowd, it’s great to hear the Celtic fans just enjoyed the moment. It’s in stark contrast to the scenes we all witnessed in George square a year ago when the Police had running battles with Rangers supporters as they fought among themselves. Breaking negotiable benches and vandalising statues in the process.

It’s not surprising – Celtic fans are respected the world over for their support. Having been in many crowds of Celtic fans, it’s always a good time.

  1. I came across a few ragers fans videos on YouTube where they claimed that Celtic fans were destroying the city, but all their videos showed were fans partying and enjoying themselves, bar the odd daft incident!

The video creators even tried to draw comparison with fans of the Ibrox side rioting and destroying the city last year!

    What a sad bunch!

  3. If the forces of darkness manage to win the Europa League on Wednesday it’ll be interesting to compare the celebrations in Glasgow. On an unrelated note, bomb shelters are currently reduced on Amazon.
