Police Scotland has confirmed that nine arrests were made and 15 individuals charged following Saturday’s title celebrations by Celtic fans in Glasgow city centre.

Thousands gathered in the Trongate area to mark the club’s 55th league title win, despite clear guidance from both the club and local authorities asking supporters to avoid the area. While the majority of the celebrations passed without incident, police revealed that issues did arise throughout the day.

Three arrests were made at Celtic Park, with a further six in the city centre. Officers also issued fixed penalty notices and recorded warnings, while alcohol was seized from some revellers. In total, 15 individuals will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for offences including possession of pyrotechnics, offensive weapons, and assault.

Clean-up and repair work began on Saturday night. Traffic lights in the area were left broken at Glasgow Cross, which are currently not in operation, and images from the scene showed monuments climbed, litter strewn across streets, and smoke from pyrotechnics lingering in the air.

Despite the visible disruption, there were Celtic fans helping to clean up after the crowds had dispersed, offering a small positive amid the damage.

Celtic had earlier issued a statement urging fans to celebrate safely and responsibly, and reiterated their hope of working with city officials to develop a suitable space for future celebrations away from public roads and infrastructure.

As the club prepares for next weekend’s Scottish Cup final, attention now turns back to football but questions remain about how title celebrations can be better managed in future to ensure safety and minimise disruption.
