Fraser Forster will start his first competitive game since March last year when he was in goals for Celtic’s 5-0 victory over St Mirren.

The Englishman opted not to return to Celtic in the summer and was told he would get an opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the Southampton team.

Due to Alex McCarthy testing positive for the virus, Fraser takes his place in the side for the game against Liverpool this evening.

The goalkeeper joins former Celtic player Stuart Armstrong in the starting XI.

It’s a big break for Fraser who will look to keep out one of the most potent attacking forces in the league.

Celtic have been struggling with his absence since the summer. Three goalkeepers have been tried in goals for Celtic this season so far with nobody showing number one credentials. Any hope the player might return for the second half of the season has evaporated after this latest development.
