ANGE POSTECOGLOU has weighed into the Ryan Christie transfer situation by declaring he would love to keep the midfielder at the club beyond his current contract.

If you’re not familiar with Ryan’s deal – someone at Celtic – most likely Peter Lawwell – sanctioned a deal that sees Christie’s Celtic contract run out this December.

As it stands, Ryan is free to talk to any club who might want to sign him up on a pre-contract.

Speaking about his player, Ange Postecoglou told SunSport he wants to see Ryan stay and be part of the rebuild, but it’s by no means in his hands.

“Ryan is such an intelligent player, but he’s also one that’s willing to work hard for the team.

“In terms of his future, there’s things that I can’t control, but I’d love to keep him at the club if he wants to stay.

“Right now he’s a contracted player, he’s got a few months to go on his deal, and he’s training awfully hard.

“Ryan was outstanding last Tuesday when we went down to ten men. You need everyone to put in an extra shift and he did the work of two.”

Like so many others in the team last season, Ryan struggled in Neil Lennon’s side. The direction he was given didn’t help and shooting on sight became a major pet hate of the Celtic support.

You can already see differences in the way he’s being asked to play under Ange, but this could be just a fleeting glimpse if Ryan’s still set in a move down south.

We will wait and see how this plays out, however, there’s been no real talk of Ryan and the club getting together for new contract talks.

The Scottish international will likely play some part in this season – even if he does head somewhere else.
