ANGE POSTECOGLOU has stated that he believed Celtic had a player covering when Callum McGregor had to make a last ditch challenge.

The Celtic captain received a red card for the challenge, presumably for being the last man. However, the Celtic manager disputes this, claiming his side had players covering.

“It’s hard to say. From my angle I thought we had a covering player. The referee’s made that decision so we’ve just got to cop it.” Ange told BBC Sportsound.

To me, it looked like we had players running in from wider areas and therefore wasn’t a sending off. However, the referee has made that decision, and, thankfully, it wasn’t costly. It mean it was a nervy end to the game, though.

It’s not often you hear Ange come out and dispute a referee’s decision, meaning he must firmly believe what he saw.

It’ll be interesting to see if Celtic appeal the sending off, or just take the suspension knowing there are players capable of stepping in.

It was great to see the fans didn’t get on the captain’s back, instead they clapped him off the pitch, knowing he did what he had to do.

  1. Looked the right call to me…by the ref & CalMac. He took one for the team and was justified IMO as Motherwell player was going to be 1 on 1.
Can’t be on top form every week, today it was all about gettimg away with the 3 points

  2. Welsh would have covered if the guy continued towards goal but given the position of hart i think he would have lobbed him before welsh got to him so if thats why it was a red i think its correct. If it was given as a last man challenge it’s not the correct call.
