Ange Postecoglou has hinted that midfielder James McCarthy could be set for an opportunity in the side.

Since joining the club in the summer, the majority of the Irishman’s appearances for the Hoops have come from the bench after a very stop-start beginning to his Parkhead career.

That might have affected his performances so far, with the 30-year old not being able to put up consistent minutes and build his match sharpness, with another frustrating cameo off the bench on Thursday replacing Nir Bitton.

However, Ange could be set to give him a chance in the side, as he hinted that it could come within the next week as he claimed there are signs he is ready for that chance.

“I think so. There have been those signs, and he (James McCarthy) is ready for an opportunity,” he said, as cited by Sun Sport.

“That may come on Sunday or next week. He is ready for that.”

After joining on a long-term, four-year deal, supporters would have hoped for more from the former English Premier League midfielder so far this campaign.

But with the limited minutes we have seen McCarthy on the field, we are arguably yet to see a comprehensive display that would see him possibly break into the starting 11.

Of course, that might be something that comes with more minutes in the side, adding match sharpness to his game.

You would imagine Ange will be hoping that is the case anyway if he looks to give the Ireland internationalist an opportunity to start in the next few fixtures.
