Speaking ahead of Celtic’s second leg against Midtjylland on Wednesday night, the Celtic manager was asked about the potential signing of Aurélio Buta.

The Portuguese right-back has been heavily linked with Celtic over the past few days and the word from Belgium is we could be close to signing the 24-year-old.

However, Ange was not about to give the game away. He’s said plenty of times he is reluctant to confirm or deny any names when it comes to transfers because if Celtic don’t manage to land a particular target he’s spoken of – it might look like Celtic haven’t go their number one target.

In reality, the club are working off a list of a lot of candidates they have been looking at for some time. It’s how they can progress talks with some of these individuals and if they’re ultimately a good fit for the club.

Asked if Buta was ‘close to signing’, Ange Responded.

“Mate, ‘close to signing’ could mean a million miles away at the moment, what I do know is we’re working on things.” the manager told Celtic TV.

“I can categorically say we haven’t signed anyone else as of yet, there’s no one else who’s put pen to paper, but we’re working hard to make sure we can do that in the coming days.”

We all know Celtic are in the market for a right back and it’s a position we needed covered six weeks ago, never mind now. The club have to make the right call on who is going to come in and play the position.
