At the beginning of the summer, not many Celtic fans knew where Tony Ralston’s career at the club was heading with his contract coming to an end.

The full-back was handed a year extension, which surprised some due to the lack of action the 22-year old has had in the last couple of seasons.

However, he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and shown significant development under new boss Ange Postecoglou, and with the Hoops, injury issues become somewhat of a key cog within the side.

After signing just a year extension with the club, the club appears to be keen to sign Ralston up on fresh terms as Postecoglou revealed contract talks are already underway with the young right-back.

“In terms of Tony, Michael Nicholson (interim chief executive) is in charge of that area,” Ange said as quoted by the Daily Record.

“My focus is trying to make sure that Anthony continues his development because he’s been fantastic.

“Contract negotiations will take care of themselves. There’s very little need to feel angst about it.

“The club has a lot of faith in Tony. That’s why they gave him a new contract before I even started here.

“I gave him a chance, and you’d have to say he’s grabbed it with both hands so far.”

It has been impressive to see the improvement of Tony Ralston under Ange, as he continues to put in good performances each week.

Now, we find ourselves in a position of strength in the right-back area with two good options, instead of none, which we started the summer off with after losing both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed last campaign.

This would undoubtedly come as a well-deserved reward for the Lennoxtown graduate.
