James Forrest surprised many when he put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Hoops in May.

The winger was struggling to break into Ange’s squad, and constant injuries were hampering his chances. However, the manager still believes he has something to offer and is worth sticking around.

The Celtic boss has been full of praise for James, putting his praise of the player on record. He was keen for supporters to know that the winger was working hard behind the scenes as Celtic gear up for the season ahead.

As quoted by The Sun, Postecoglou said;

“James has been at this club for a very long time.

“If you asked him if he’s ever felt he was guaranteed a spot in this team, or this club didn’t have more than two great wingers, I’d be very, very surprised. I don’t think anything has changed for him.

“Yeah, it’s a challenge at the moment getting game time, but the reason we kept him on last year and re-signed him is because I still think there’s value in him.

“He’s an experienced guy and he still has the skill-set and temperament to perform at the highest level and he’s training really well.

Forrest’s Celtic Role

The winger, who was part of every nine-in-a-row squad, will know he’s fallen down the pecking order, with Jota and Abada Postecoglou’s preferred choices on the right. He’s a backup player now, and he’s accepted that.

Although, his experience in the dressing room will be vital, especially with the club competing in the Champions League this season.

He’ll forever be a one-man club and will go down in Celtic’s history books.
