Any Celtic fan who is clamouring for Celtic to make a big money bid for Jeffrey Bruma should have a look at this before they lambast the club for not making a move.

The Wolfsburg star has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic with the German club open to letting the player go should the right bid should come in.

This got many Celtic fans excited about the prospect of the Dutchman’s potential move to Glasgow.

While the player himself has said there has been no contact between himself, his agent and Celtic rumours surrounding a deal are still there.

Wishful thinking for some Celtic fans but is it something we really should get excited about – even if the club were to make a bid?

Speaking to fans of Wolfsburg, we were told on his day he is a top drawer defender BUT his proneness to injury since joining Wolfsburg has been a major setback for Bruma.

We had a look and were amazed by the number of days Jeffrey has been unavailable to play for Wolfsburg in the two seasons he’s been there.

According to TransferMarkt Bruma has been sidelined for a total of 314 days, spanning six different injuries/illness’.

A long-term knee operation has been the lengthiest source of his absences with strains, niggles and not being up to match speed contributing to the rest.

Given the current state of play with Marvin Compper, if Celtic were to spend big money on Jeffrey and he was to fall injured very quickly it could be a potential disaster.

To take a player on with an injury history like above is more than a massive gamble.

Celtic’s scouting network the past two seasons has not been good enough and it remains to be seen if Bruma ever made a Celtic scouting list, but if the 26-year-old is our greatest hope of a top defensive buy this window then we’re going north of a certain creek and we’re fresh out of paddles.

  1. It is not that hard a job to spot a good player we need two CHs and now other teams can buy in what they need but we only want a work in progress type of player get the spine of the team solid then bring in the younger work in progress players you will nothing with under 21 teams now.

    • No it’s not hard to spot s good player Jackie we could both do the job as scouts nae bother Celtic always do things the hard way give Gerrard his due when he spots a player he just goes get him sign him up simple nowt hard in that is their but Celtic just piss aboot too much a bet u tae they won’t sign anybody by next frday

    • Hi all go on cellic website read aboot a guy called samir tasci he seems a solid centre back has played for Bayern Munich and in champs league he is a free agent at moment so Celtic would need to move fast

  2. Two words. Derk Boerrigter.
Now the club did the right thing last year by NOT signing Rivaldo Coetzee with a similar risk of future injury. Hopefully they see right through this as well.
Irrespective, we’ve had all summer to sort this out. All. Summer.
