Celtic and chief scout John Park parted ways last week after nine years at the club.

Many were surprised by the news of his departure, fans speculating that it was Brendan Rodgers call to axe Park so he could appoint his own man in charge of looking for new talent.

That search is well underway and a frontrunner has already appeared in the form of Huddersfield’s head of Stuart Webber.

The 32-year-old was a former academy scout for Liverpool and has spent time at QPR and Wolves before landing at Huddersfield. It’s thought that Rodgers prefers Stuart to a number of other candidates but any move for him would depend on the club agreeing the terms of his release with Huddersfield.

John Park recommended some heavy hitters during his tenure at Celtic. The scouting system shapes the team in a massive way, which is why it’s of the utmost importance that Rodgers makes the right call.

Whoever comes in will have to hit the ground running as well as work within the restraints of the Scottish Champions. The staff might be changing but the goal stays the same – buy young and inexpensive talent, educate then sell on for a large fee. Much like Wanyama, van Dijk etc.
