Resident Sky Sports Ref Watch pundit Dermot Gallagher has poured cold water on Brendan Rodgers belief that Dolly Menga should have been sent off for a headbutt in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Livingston.

Menga appeared to thrust his head towards Ryan Christie in an act of aggression. There was minimal contact and Christie made no attempt to try and make any more of it where others might have.

Speaking on his ‘Ref Watch’ Sky Sports segment where Dermot walks through the biggest contentious decisions of the weekend, the referee believes there was no call to be made here and Dolly should have stayed on the pitch.

“I watched this game live and I thought the referee did ever so well in this incident.” Dermot told Sky Sports.

“It was just two players trying to get positioned and it was just a petulant act and one the referee dealt with quite well.”

Celtic and Livingston played out to a 0-0 draw, a resolute backline for Livingston and some great saves by their goalkeeper earned them a point at Almondvale.

It’s two points dropped for Celtic but they still reach the top of the league for the first time this season after overtaking Hearts on goal difference.

Celtic have a game in hand where they could pull three clear.

  1. Good,he’ll be able to play against Sevco after we all wake up from the international snoozefest as I’m sure the SFA will take notice of someone called Dermot ?

  2. Dermot to my surprise got the McHugh red car right. MENGA one WRONG,if Candeias walked for nothing last week then MENGA had to walk yesterday.

  3. Did he do it again later on though? Caught the highlights on Hunscene and in a replay of one of their later challenges it looks like Menga tries to butt someone just off camera and the ball is nowhere near him.

Clearly a wank, though. I hope he joins Aberdeen for pun reasons….

  4. According to Dermot, no contact so no red card. Does the same apply to a player who aims a kick at a player, with the ball nowhere them. Does that not merit a red card. Surely we are not oblivious to the fact Menga tried to inflict a head butt at an opposition player. C’mon Dermot, forget the comfy chair, the tea and Buckie’s, treat it seriously.
